Mission Netaji – A (last) shot in the arm….

We, a group of youngsters from all parts of our country, are constantly working to bring out the truth regarding the disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Some of our members have already proved that the said plane crash on 18th Aug 1945 (in which Netaji is believed to have perished forever) was a total fake. The present MK Mukherjee commission, on the backdrop of this had visited Taiwan early in this January and the Taiwan government had officially given the statement that there was no such crash at the Taihoku airport on the said date or at any date around that particular date. So, in the first place, Chandra Bose was alive even after 18th Aug 1945. The commission got this valuable information from our member Mr Anuj Dhar who is a journalist with The Hindustan Times in Delhi.

Next, we have collected relevant information from Dr Purabi Roy, a researcher on Netaji in Russia that there are records pertaining to Netaji in the Russian archives after the above mentioned date. On the basis of this, the commission, after so many attempts has got the nod from the Indian Govt for a visit to Russia from the 19th of September this year. The problem with all these is that the Indian PM Dr Manmohan Singh must write to the Russian president Vladimir Putin to allow the commission access to all the archives without reservation. Otherwise the commission's visit would conclude as a mere 'jovial' visit. The Govt, as of now is trying to delay or abandon the proposed visit. The Govt says, it cannot even hand over the Indian files pertaining to Netaji, because of NATIONAL SECURITY AND INTERESTS. Obviously, there is something fishy afoot. We are all trying hard to uncover the truth. The reports from all the major foreign secret intelligence bureaus have indicated that, even Jawaharlal Nehru and Mohandas Gandhi were aware of Bose's existence in Russia and Siberia. If something that had happened a full 60 years back still raises national security and national interest concerns, there are some serious backstage issues behind it. Why should Nehru or Gandhi conceal about Bose's existence in Russia? There are many more such questions.

Recently, on 15th Aug 2005, BBC had reported that the British had ordered to finish off Netaji in 1941 itself. It is believed widely that to escape from the eyes of the Allies, Bose (with the knowhow of Gandhi, Nehru et al) had planned such a fake plane crash and had escaped to Russia. So far, so good. But what happened to him afterwards? A letter was uncovered which was written by Nehru to Clement Attlee that Bose got political asylum in Russia and being a member of the Allies, it was untrustworthiness on the part of Russia to have decided to protect him. Why should have he written such a letter? Another letter was uncovered which was written by Netaji to Nehru, requesting him to arrange for his safe return to India. But this letter was also kept secret by Nehru. This had created a lot of problems in the parliament. It is strongly suspected that India, in fact, got freedom at the expense of Netaji. Some believe that Bose had returned to India secretly and had lived as Gumnami Baba alias Bhagwanji at Faizabad near Ayodhya. The desciples of Baba say that he had a strong resemblance to Netaji. He died strangely in the mid 1980's. A recent DNA test of his tooth had denied this probability of both being the same person, but the latest news is that the tooth wasn't Baba's and the credibility of the tests could also be suspected! Also, the belongings of Baba, uncovered by the commission includes a powerful German binocular (Netaji was in Germany for a while, to join hands with Hitler), a foreign photo album comprising only Netaji photos, similar golden framed specs, the original summons sent to Netaji's brother by one of the earlier commissions asking him to come before the commission. The point is, if the sanyasi Gumnami Baba wasn't Netaji, why should have he kept all these and where should have he got these rare pictures and summons from. Another study indicates that Netaji had later broken up with Stalin and that he was jailed in Siberia and died there.

In any case, the commission will have to go to Russia and inquire further for a better picture. It should not be any late. We are trying to assist them by knocking on all doors including that of the Ministry of External Affairs. Sadly, the only Indian newspaper that gives this news any importance is the Hindustan Times, though some other papers also publish some key developments. Our group consists of writers, authors, militiamen, businessmen, professors, doctors, students, researchers and people in many more walks of life. We are in constant touch with the commission and Dr Roy. The team leader Mr Anuj Dhar had deposed before the commission, filed petitions in the Supreme Court and published a book (Back from dead -- Inside the Subhas Bose mystery) on this issue. I am glad that I suggested the name 'MissionNetaji' for the organisation and it was officially accepted by the fellow members. Our website has just been launched www.missionnetaji.org.

The need of the hour is that we need to pressurise the Govt from all possible corners, including from the foreign. Then only it will write to the Russians. We were able to publish an ad now in the Indian Express USA since our PM is currently in the US. We also have other plans of helping our freedom fighters who are suffering from many problems. But now, the focus is centered on the former aspect alone. I take this opportunity to request you on behalf of the group, to help us in this noble cause in your own way. You can create an awareness among people across the globe, especially the Indians on this issue. We will be most grateful if you could do this favour for us. Please do the needful at the earliest. It's not a matter of a single organisation, but that of an entire nation and its people including you and me, because our conscience won't forgive us if we let go of this last opportunity to know about the man who tried his best to liberate us from the British.

The proposed Russian visit is from the 19th of September and the final report of the commission is to be submitted before Nov 14 this year. So, we need to get our acts together a lot earlier than 19th September.
